Rubber Ducky Derby to Benefit Agua Hedionda Lagoon Foundation

The Rubber Ducky Derby benefits over 7,000 North County students attending educational programs offered through the Agua Hedionda Foundation’s Discovery Center. Individuals and businesses alike are encouraged to organize a team for this fun, team-building experience on November 5 at the California Watersports Building. Rubber ducks are available for purchase at one for $5 or “5 quackers for ($)20 smackers”. The day’s activities start at 10 a.m. and include entertainment for the entire family with a horseshoe competition, water relays, crafts and music as well as the “derby”.

Thomas Lee has been appointed general manager for Cape Rey Carlsbad, a Hilton Resort situated along San Diego’s spectacular North County coastline. A seasoned hospitality professional, Lee most recently served as general manager of the Pacific Edge Hotel, a Joie de Vivre property in Laguna Beach, Calif. and previously served on the board of Visit Laguna Beach.

Gems Of La Costa Proves True Gem With Charity Jar

Many years ago, something unexpected happened at Gems of La Costa. The owners, Dale and Linda Condy, began “working for tips”, providing small repairs in exchange for voluntary donations (tips) for local charities. They called the tips “Charity Charges” and it became their unique way of giving back to the community. An engraved plate was placed on a glass jar and the “Charity Charges” tip jar was born. Since long retail hours limited their ability to volunteer, it became a way to give back. Today, almost three decades and many thousands of dollars in donations later, Gems of La Costa continues the practice of working for tips. This time of year, Charity Jar Donations go to organizations such as the Community Resource Center, Brother Bennos and the North County Food Bank as they provide holiday meals for families in need.
