Dubai is on most travelers’ bucket list but nothing quite prepares one for this desert paradise until you set foot there. Immerse yourself in local culture at the desert safari and gold souqs (markets) or enjoy some of the world renowned local sights such as the Burj Khalifa – the tallest building in the world and the Burj Al Arab luxury hotel. There is ALWAYS some event happening locally that all of Dubai celebrates. The Miracle Gardens (it is!), Yacht Club, Dubai Creek are all great sight-seeing options and every mall is a destination all its own!

Nestled on the Amalfi Coast in Southern Italy, the hillside of Positano is covered in eclectic and colorful buildings. Boutique shops line the quaint cobblestone streets. Take a stroll down to the inviting pebble-stone beach, breathe in the salty Mediterranean air, and be entranced by the sparkling aqua sea. Positano is an enchanting place, teeming with vibrant character. As author John Steinbeck once wrote, “Positano bites deep. It is a dream place that isn’t quite real when you are there and becomes beckoningly real after you have gone.”

Anadia, Portugal is the region about 200 kilometers north of Lisbon, near the former capitol of Coimbra, which preserves a Medieval town as well as the University of Coimbra. Opt for a few nights at the Hotel du Parque in Curia – a bed and breakfast style hotel run by three generations of women, all named Maria. Head over to Nova Casa dos Leitoes where they roast a regional specialty, leitao or sucking pig, on the premises. Capping off dinner with dessert is never a question, and Portuguese cuisine boasts egg and creme rich bites such as papos de anjo (angel’s double-chin) and barriga de freiras (nuns’ belly).

In Algarve, Portugal, charming locals and spectacular views of the mountains and ocean await. Located in the southernmost region of the country, this destination is pure paradise. The gorgeous coastline is dotted with several cliffs, including Praia dos Três Irmãos, or Praia do Camilo. Spend the day at the beach in Albufeira, then wine and dine at the restaurants right on the boardwalk!
