CARLSBAD POLICE DEPARTMENT K-9 TEAM GETS BULLETPROOF VESTS!

The newly formed San Diego non-profit K-9 Guardians Foundation donated ballistic vests to protect the wonderful K-9s in the Carlsbad Police Department. The K-9 Guardians Foundation aims to provide dogs who are placed in the line of duty the protection they need and has equipped the department’s four K-9s with bulletproof vests to protect the dogs during dangerous situations. The vests are from Maximum K-9, and are rated by the Department of Justice as the highest level of ballistic protection for canines. CarlsbadCA.gov

Meet Tri-City Medical Center’s
Lucky 13 marathon training 
program participants

Thirteen deserving participants have been chosen to be a part of the annual Lucky 13, a free hospital-sponsored training program for the Tri-City Medical Center Carlsbad Marathon and Half Marathon on January 15, 2017. Among them is Carlsbad resident Dr. Gregory Warda, 68, who has experienced a world of obstacles and overcome all of them to participate with his able teammates in this incredible personal journey. Coached by trainer Paul Carey, a former Lucky 13 member himself, the group is an inspiration for both young and old to set health-related New Year’s resolutions and not let anything hold one back. Follow their stories on TriCityMed.org

The Most Meaningful and Impactful 5K Returns to Carlsbad

Mitchell Thorp Foundation will host their largest fundraiser of the year – their eighth annual 5K Run/Walk – February 4, 2017 at Poinsettia Park in Carlsbad. This year, the event will be themed around  Warrior Children who fight every day for their lives. “Bring Out The Warrior Within to Help a Warrior Child” will set the stage for the 5K, which will feature a chip- timed race for runners and a beautiful park loop for walkers. The funds raised from the event will benefit families in grave situations caring for children diagnosed with life-threatening illnesses. MitchellThorp.org
