Love in the Village

Looking for a romantic local
Valentine’s Date?

There’s no need to travel far to find romance. The village in downtown Carlsbad is a charming location, popular to both residents and tourists alike. It has classic options plus a handful of new modern restaurants and venues to offer up hours of entertainment and enjoyment. Local residents Lisa & Terry Rodman, who have been married for 35 years, share their ultimate ‘”Love in the Village” romantic date.

The Rodmans started off their day at Naked Cafe and split their continental breakfast plate with coconut French Toast and fresh fruit. After breakfast, they relaxed with a couples massage and soaked in a bath at the Carlsbad Mineral Spa. The alkaline water, which was discovered in 1882, has numerous health benefits such as detoxing, easing stiff joints, and recharging your body. Don’t have time for a bath? Fill a bottle straight from the mineral spring, at one of the many dispensers on the outside of the spa building. It’s the best tasting water in town! Around noon they sat down at the award winning Land & Water Co., exclaimed by San Diego Magazine ‘Best Sushi’ created by 2016 ‘Chef of the Year’ Rob Ruiz. They shared the Water Roll with craft cocktails while enjoying the ambiance and scenery. After lunch they strolled over to State Street to take in some shopping at many of the unique shops. Lisa found a few things she liked at Aranelle & Copper Canary while Terry picked up a pair of shoes at Coolest Shoes in California.

Before heading to dinner, they enjoyed some wine tasting at the new urban winery Carruth Cellars and signed up for their ‘wine of the month’ club before heading to an early dinner at Gregorio’s for classic Spaghetti and Meatballs in a marinara sauce and the Lemon Chicken with artichokes and linguine.
Lisa surprised Terry with tickets to the theater at New Village Arts and before the curtain went up they sipped on specialty cocktails at Campfire. After the show, Lisa and Terry finished off their evening at the Carlsbad Inn & Spa with champagne, chocolate…all sealed with a sunset kiss.
With so many options in the village, it makes for a great date on Valentine’s Day or any other day of the year.
