The Lancer Dancers, Carlsbad High School’s varsity dance team, took home a first place title in Orlando Florida at this year’s Universal Dance Association (UDA) National Dance Team Competition in the Hip Hop category.  It’s the largest most prestigious dance team championship in the country. They also took home 3rd place in the Jazz Dance category. The elite 15 girl dance squad holds twelve national titles and one world title.

New Village Arts received an outstanding eight nominations from the San Diego Theatre Critics Circle.  Three of their artists were honored with major awards at the 2016 Craig Noel Awards.

Rolf Benirschke Shares Tales of NFL Glory at Carlsbad’s La Costa Glen

Rolf Benirschke, the former San Diego Charger who nearly died from ulcerative colitis, recently shared stories at La Costa Glen retirement community about his battle with the disease and the highs and lows of his NFL career. Benirschke appeared as part of the community’s ongoing “Sports Night” series.

The Shorehouse Kitchen, which currently has a successful restaurant in La Jolla, is taking over the space previously home to the Village Grille.  It will  offer breakfast and lunch initially and will eventually expand into dinner service.  With 58 seats inside and 58 seats outside, The Shorehouse Kitchen will be a wonderful addition right in the heart of the Village.

Carlsbad’s Calavera Hills Named ‘Model Middle School’

Calavera Hills Middle School was added to the California Department of Education’s “Schools to Watch-Taking Center Stage” Program, one of only 30 schools from the entire state.  These schools are recognized for helping students succeed with academics, as well as personally going above and beyond with other unique challenges the students might face.

Callaway nets $190 million in 2016

Carlsbad based Callaway Golf Company announced a reported net income of $190 million, or $1.98 per diluted share, compared to $15 million, or 17 cents a diluted share, the year before. The company credited an increase in sales, higher market share and a joint venture for apparel in Japan for overcoming soft market conditions.
