Chiropractic Care for Kids
I want you to think about a time in your life when you had the most energy and excitement. When you couldn’t wait to wake up and get out of bed in the morning and see what the day would bring. Think about what age you were then. Now perhaps that is right now in your life, but if you are like most people, you probably thought of a time during your childhood. If it wasn’t right now that you wake up with abundant energy and enthusiasm for what the day will bring, realize that at some point we allow our minds and bodies to become overburdened to the point where life is not the fun trip that it can be or that it was in our youth. What if we could recover this passion to drink in all that life has to offer us? What if we could keep our kids from suffering this same loss of energy, passion and drive?
As patients transition from a life of pain to a life of better function in our office, I can usually see a moment of realization that loss of function happens little by little. It is often so slow that we may not notice it, until one day we realize we can’t do the things we used to do. This then usually leads to either denial, acceptance, or a motivation to restore lost function. I always know when we have done a good job with our patient education when a patient realizes that maintaining function is the true benefit of chiropractic, NOT pain reduction. This is the big idea!
The next logical step for many is a realization that we want to make sure we are teaching our children how to maintain and improve function. That’s when I start to get the question “should my kids be getting chiropractic care?” and “could chiropractic help my child perform better?” The obvious answer for me is an emphatic “YES!” We adjust babies, toddlers and kids of all ages. Often it is to restore some lost function or aid in the healing process, but many of these children continue to see us for wellness checkups throughout their lives. These kids and parents both get the big idea!
